The smoke has settled and we have a field of drivers set for battle in Formula Drift Pro Top 32 at Irwindale!
Once again the Worthouse Drift team puts down near perfect runs with James Deane and Piotr Wiecek getting 98’s on their first runs. On his second run Deane would lay down an even higher 99, solidifying his #1 qualifying position! Both drivers put their 2jz powered S15’s right on the wall and kept the throttle buried until the end of their runs! Impressive and fast!
Rounding out the Top 5 were Dai Yoshihara in 3rd, Frederic Aasbo in 4th, and Ryan Tuerck in 5th. All 5 of these drivers will receive a bye run right into Top 16 due to 5 drivers not making the field.
Most notably, Atlanta winner Kristaps Blušs, did not show up to the event along with Alex Heilbrunn.
Ryan Litteral and Kevin Lawrence failed to qualify due to mechanical issues.
And in a bit of a harsh call by the judges, Kyle Mohan and his Mazdatrix Mx5 received a second zero on a straightening call. It was a by the rules call and was definitely right, but with an already short field, fans wondered why the call was made for a zero.
The only casualty from qualifying was Federico and Fiorella, who hit the wall hard transitioning into the second wall section. The damage was hard but it looked fixable as I’m sure the FFF team will be hard at work through the night to get the Ferrari ready to Drift in Top 32 tomorrow.
The field is set! The drama will be high! Can James Deane make it 2 Formula Drift championships in a row? Will Aasbo take down the champ to win another? We find out tomorrow, October 13th 2018! Formula Drift Round 8 Final Fight is here! Send it!!!
